2012 Schmeckfest tickets are now on sale!
The 54th Schmeckfest is organized and hosted by the Freeman Academy Auxiliary. Its members and many friends from Freeman and neighboring communities unite to cook and serve the family-style meals, demonstrate crafts and culinary arts and present highly acclaimed musical productions. We hope you will join us in celebrating the "festival of tasting", as well as the wonderful traditions of our community.
This years musical, The Wizard of Oz, will be under the direction of Jeremy Waltner. The stage adaptation of The Wizard of Oz follows closely the familiar story depicted in the 1939 fantasy movie based on the story written by L. Frank Baum. In it, a young girl in Dorothy travels to the land of Oz after a tornado sweeps across her family's Kansas farm. While in Oz, she encounters a host of characters, including the Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Wicked Witch of the West and the Wizard himself, in her quest to return to Kansas. The stage adaptation follows the movie version closely and includes iconic songs like "Over The Rainbow", "Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead" and "We're Off To See The Wizard." The Wizard of Oz will be presented each evening of Schmeckfest 2012, which will be held March 23, 24, 30 and 31 with a performance only on March 29.
